A Staph Infection Changed Everything
In 2011, Steve Tracanna was a dedicated hockey player when a routine practice turned into a medical emergency. Bacteria from his own gear infected his elbow, spread through his bloodstream, and nearly cost him his arm. He spent days in the hospital, lost 16 pounds, nearly went septic, and faced over $85,000 in medical bills. His doctors traced it directly back to his equipment. A proper disinfectant made for athletes didn't exist — so he built one.
We Built the Solution
Steve partnered with co-founder Gary Tamelligan to develop a formula built specifically for sports gear. Not bleach. Not a deodorant spray. Clear Gear kills 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and fungi — including MRSA, staph, and ringworm — using natural essential oils. No harsh chemicals, no residue, safe on every surface athletes touch. EPA-registered. Made in the USA.
Now We Protect Everyone
From professional locker rooms to youth sports leagues, Clear Gear is now trusted by NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL teams, fire departments, military training facilities, and over 250,000 athletes nationwide. The New England Patriots, New York Jets, Houston Texans, UFC, the FDNY, and the ATF all rely on Clear Gear to keep their people safe. When the equipment that protects you needs protecting — this is what they reach for.
Protect the equipment that protects you. That's more than a tagline — it's our mission, backed by science, real-world stories, and the trust of the best in the game.
