In 2011, Steve Tracanna contracted a staph infection from his hockey equipment. What started as a sore on his elbow turned septic within days. He lost 16 pounds, racked up over $85,000 in medical bills, and nearly lost his arm. His doctors traced it directly back to bacteria living in his gear.
